Dirk De Bruyn has been at the bench since 1996. Valhalla Gunsmithing, his own veteran-owned shop, has been open in Iowa City since October 2024.
The work runs from everyday repairs and scope mounting to trigger jobs, mill work and critical safety inspections. He's known for what he does with 1911 pistols. As he puts it, he can't fix the shooter — he can make sure the firearm is safe.

There is a $100 fee to take possession of a customer's firearm, and then the job itself is priced by the work involved. More technical jobs cost more than simple ones. If the work takes 15 minutes, the bill is the initial fee plus 15 minutes. Quotes are free — send the details and you'll get a straight answer.
